Learning through creating: students express themselves through music composition
Students in Ms. Healy’s music class can list music composition on their list of skills now that their music trimester has concluded. And they have their own original pieces of work to prove it. As their final class project, students were asked to compose and write their own original song and lyrics about any topic of their choice, as long as it followed IPA’s 5 agreements of aloha, mālama, hoʻolohe, kuleana, and pono.
IPA Seniors Create “Quarantine Art Club – Color with Teens in Quarantine”
Three ISLAND PACIFIC ACADEMY seniors saw a need in the community and rose to the challenge in a creative and meaningful way. With the entire state of Hawai’i staying at home in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, they were inspired to help others spend their time creatively, so they created the Quarantine Art Club – a website with free, original coloring pages they create for anyone to download and enjoy.
IPA Senior Awarded Gold Key at Hawaiʻi Regional Scholastic Art Awards
Lina Finley ’20 was awarded the Gold Key in Digital Art at the 57th Annual Hawaiʻi Regional Scholastic Art Awards for her digital illustration titled “The Power of Lighting.”
IPA Celebrates the Arts at Hoʻike Night
IPA’s Secondary Arts were on display at the annual Hoʻike Night on December 6, 2019. It was an evening showcasing the creative artwork and music of our IPA secondary students.
Elementary Faculty Katherine Jones Honored with Poʻokela Award
Katherine Jones, IPA’s Elementary Sustainability & Innovation Coordinator, was honored with a Poʻokela Award in the “Dance Choreographer/Movement Stage Combat” category for her work in “The Rocky Horror Show” at Mānoa Valley Theatre. This was Jones’ eighth Poʻokela Award, which are given out by the given out by the Hawaiʻi State Theatre Council.
