Three DP Art seniors were recognized for excellence at the 2021 Hawai’i Regional Scholastic Art Awards on January 28, 2021. Awarded the Silver Key were Grace Gehrich, Sophia Holmen, and Laney Tapia. Gehrich and Holmen were also recognized with Honorable Mentions along with seniors Amara Kennedy, Breana Alexander-Higa, and Kaitlyn Taaca.
As their final class project, Grade 7 Design Technology students were challenged to use the design thinking process to create a home ornament using one of three types of structures – an illustration on a wood cutout, a pierced out image and or word, or a tab and slot design that transformed a 2D design into a 3D object.
Students in Ms. Healy’s music class can list music composition on their list of skills now that their music trimester has concluded. And they have their own original pieces of work to prove it. As their final class project, students were asked to compose and write their own original song and lyrics about any topic of their choice, as long as it followed IPA’s 5 agreements of aloha, mālama, hoʻolohe, kuleana, and pono.
Three ISLAND PACIFIC ACADEMY seniors saw a need in the community and rose to the challenge in a creative and meaningful way. With the entire state of Hawai’i staying at home in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, they were inspired to help others spend their time creatively, so they created the Quarantine Art Club – a website with free, original coloring pages they create for anyone to download and enjoy.
Lina Finley ’20 was awarded the Gold Key in Digital Art at the 57th Annual Hawaiʻi Regional Scholastic Art Awards for her digital illustration titled “The Power of Lighting.”
