He Lei Poina ‘Ole Ke Keiki – A Child is a Lei Never Forgotten

INFORMATION FOR MAY DAY CELEBRATION 2017

 

Please join us on Friday, April 28, 2017 for our 10th annual May Day celebration, He Lei Poina ‘Ole Ke Keiki – A Child is a Lei Never Forgotten. Children and flowers are often compared because they both require care, nourishment and a healthy environment in which to thrive. Our program will feature songs about the many different beautiful flowers that surround us here in Hawaiʻi nei.

 

PROGRAM SCHEDULE

8:00 a.m.Pre-show entertainment by IPA May Day musicians

9:00 a.m.Program begins

10:30 a.m.Program ends

10:45 a.m.Elementary students need to be signed out from their classrooms by parent or guardian

11:00 a.m.Early dismissal for all grades. There will be NO AFTERSCHOOL care provided.

 

STUDENT ATTIRE

Haumana (students) from grades K-12, faculty, and staff are asked to dress in aloha wear, slippers, and a fresh lei. Girls are asked to wear a flower in their hair.

This is an outdoor event and we are hoping for beautiful weather. Please apply sunscreen to your child(ren) that morning and provide him/her with a covered water bottle.

 

PARKING

  • Parking will be available on the street or at the Kapolei Theatres for May Day. See map below for parking locations.
  • There will be no IPA campus parking available that morning.
  • For families with kūpuna, we encourage you to drop them off on campus and then swing around to the theatre to park.
  • Please DO NOT park in the Chun Wah Kam or Kapolei Library parking lots. Violators will be towed.

SEATING

  • Please bring a mat, blanket or towel to sit on.
  • No beach chairs please.
  • There will be a reserved seating area for kūpuna and VIPs.

 

DONATIONS OF GREENERY

We are kindly asking for your kokua! If you, family members, or friends are able to donate flowers or greenery for the program, it would be much appreciated.

Drop-off on Thursday, April 27 between 7:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. on the Big Field.

We need donations of the following:

  • Ti leaves (red or green)
  • Torch ginger (red or pink)
  • Bird of Paradise
  • Heliconia (any color)
  • Anthuriums (any color)
  • Dracaena reflexa (Song of India plant)
  • Palm tree (ferns)

 

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR SET-UP HELP

We will need kōkua in setting up and decorating the stage on Thursday, April 27 at 2:45 p.m. on the large grassy field.

If you have any scissors (please label), string, zip ties or packing tape you can bring with you, it would be very helpful. We will use the donated greenery and flowers to decorate the stage and surrounding area.

DVD or Blu-Ray copies of the ISLAND PACIFIC ACADEMY May Day Celebration 2017 are available for purchase now. They will be ready two weeks after the performance.
