Presenting sponsor First Hawaiian Bank, many generous sponsors, and 168 golfers joined us on May 12, 2023 for the ISLAND PACIFIC ACADEMY’s 15th Annual Golf Tournament at Hawaiʻi Prince Golf Club. The fundraising tournament was another huge success! For the third year in a row, the golf tournament sold out with a slightly fuller than full field of 168 golfers. Led by tournament committee chairs Lance Wilhelm, Gregg Kodama, Melanie Kim, Cheryl Walthall, and Darian Chun this year’s tournament raised more than of $84,000 in support of IPA’s Tuition Aid program!
This tournament has become known for keeping the golfers well hydrated and satiated with many hospitality stations out the course – including Kapakahi Grindz, Teriyaki Madness, Hook’d Pan Roast, Sansei Seafood, and Alejandro’s. Always a tournament favorite, IPA’s Alumni and Parent-Teacher association was again on hand to serve up custom drinks and cheer the golfers on. There were many opportunities for some fun competition with the pre-tournament putting contest, and many on-course activities. And this year, golfers had a chance to win a $40,000 kitchen and bath remodel from American Floor and Home – if they could sink a hole-in-one on one of the par 3 holes.
Per IPA tournament tradition, the usual top three teams were recognized with outstanding prizes, as well as the teams who came in 15th (representing the 15th tournament) and last places. Congratulations to the winning team from Uchiyama Erkisine Architects! Their names will be added to the IPA Golf Tournament perpetual trophy. Finishing second and third were the teams from Albert C. Kobayashi, Inc. and Papé Machinery. Our lucky 15th place winner was Wasa Electrical Services, while Hawaiian Airlines racked up the highest score.
The tournament was followed by a grab-and-go bento dinner and distribution of many fabulous prizes, including three Lucky Number Grand Prizes, including a two-night stay at the beautiful Mauna Lani Resort plus 20,000 HawaiianMiles, and two nights at the Ritz-Carlton Waikīkī. Every golfer went home with a prize – from rounds of golf at Ko Olina Golf Course, to a 55” Samsung LCD TV, and a Yeti cooler.
