Visual Arts

Elementary

In Elementary art, students become responsible citizens in the art room. They learn about the elements of art, art history, and artists. They have the opportunity to explore materials, create art, and express themselves.

Lessons incorporate the National Art Standards and use an inquiry-based approach. Students make meaningful connections to classroom content and concepts. Art instruction teaches to the whole child.

Middle School

The Middle School Visual Arts Program invites students to discover their creative voice through a diverse exploration of studio techniques and artistic traditions. Whether in Ceramics, where students master craftsmanship through hand-building and wheel-throwing functional and sculptural forms, or in Visual Arts, where the focus shifts to building confidence and self-expression, the curriculum is designed to deepen artistic understanding. Students will strengthen their foundation in the elements and principles of design, analyze art movements, and cultivate essential “studio habits of mind”—including persistence, observation, and reflection—preparing them to think and create like true artists.

Upper School

The Upper School Visual Arts program offers a continuous journey of creative discovery, providing a home for every student from the beginner to the portfolio-ready artist. Whether in Ceramics or Visual Arts, the curriculum evolves from low-stress material discovery to advanced technical skill-building, culminating in a professional-style capstone course where students direct their own studio practice.
