Elementary Principal Steve Ross, Secondary Principal Steven Caley, and Secondary Vice Principal Michelle Bradley hosted “Coffee with the Principals” this morning in the MPR. Nearly 20 IPA parents and grandparents came out to learn more about the critical role social-emotional learning plays in student success, and how important it is in preparing our students for the future.
Mr. Ross started the morning with a fun group activity for the participants highlighting the “soft” skills our students are learning and practicing each day, followed by a discussion of the types of skills needed in today’s workforce versus those that will be required in the future. He emphasized that IPA prioritizes social-emotional learning and how that is achieved through the Tribes process.
Mr. Caley elaborated on the importance of social-emotional learning and how IPA is working toward best meeting the social-emotional needs of our students. He also discussed the value of the advisory program (called puʻuhonua) in the middle and upper school, and the goal of further developing the advisory program through special faculty training.
This was the third “Coffee with the Principals” event held this year. At each meeting, the principals focus on a relevant and timely topic to discuss with our IPA parents, including the Tribes process and school curriculum. It was great to see so many interested parents and grandparents come out and join in!
Please mark your calendars for the next “Coffee with the Principals” on April 19, 2018.
