Island Pacific Academy’s Navigator Robotics teams were at it again last weekend as award-winning competitors in the aio Lancer VEX IQ Robotics Challenge at Sacred Hearts Academy on Saturday October 10. In addition to bringing home five more trophies, an IPA sophomore was recognized for his continued commitment and contributions to robotics.
Colton Okimoto (’18) was presented with the Volunteer of the Year Award during the tournament. “Colton has transitioned from being a student competitor in VEX IQ to being a student mentor for our robotics teams,” says Weyland Bailey, IPA Robotics instructor. “He is a terrific ambassador, always promoting robotics and volunteering his time to referee at multiple tournaments.”

Nine sixth- and seventh-grade IPA students competed on three teams at the tournament with VEX IQ robots they built and operated themselves. Team 4442C, with IPA robotics veteran Nathan Okimoto (’22) and new member Taylor Horita (’22), brought home five trophies and a spot in the 2015-2016 aio State Robotics Championships to be held at the Hawaii Convention Center in February 2016.
