IPA Takes a Bite Out of The Big Apple

Mrs. Brandi Dul, Theatre Arts teacher, and ten of her students returned last week from a week’s visit in New York City.  From the moment they landed, they hit the ground running.  “We were going every day from seven in the morning to eleven or twelve at night, even one or two in the morning sometimes,” shared a tired but content Mrs. Dul.  “I was so proud of the students.  They really appreciated the opportunity they had to be in New York City and took advantage of every moment to take in the culture, the food, the art . . . the whole experience,” she beamed.

Mrs. Dul and the students were part of a tour with two other school groups exploring New York City with some emphasis on Broadway and the arts.  The group visited numerous museums such as the Museum of Modern Art, the Natural History Museum, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art as well as some of the more popular tourist attractions such as the Statue of Liberty, Rockefeller Center, Radio City Music Hall, Central Park, the Empire State Building and Times Square.

The group got to see three Broadway performances including “Phantom of the Opera”.  Additionally, they attended a Master Class with a professional performer from Phantom, a creative drama workshop with another Broadway professional performer, and an art history seminar at an art history museum. “One of the best parts of the trip for me was seeing “Phantom of the Opera” on Broadway since it’s always been my favorite musical,” shared senior Dee Dee Black. “Visiting New York City really brought out my love for theatre and arts.  The city provides so many opportunities to see art, in such large scales, that I found myself enjoying it more than I previously thought I could,” she added.  Senior Caitlyn Kucic was impressed by the many languages and cultures represented in the city.  “Our tour guide told us that there are over 800 languages spoken in New York.  Isn’t that crazy?” Caitlin marveled.  Something that all the students said they appreciated was the opportunity to get to know each other and to form bonds even though the students were from different grade levels.  Sophomore Shania Bravo exclaimed, “If someone asked me to take a trip with my ‘Big Apple Squad’ again, I’d say ‘yes’ in a heartbeat!”
