Student Government Kicks Off the Year with Leadership Summit

Class Councils for Grades 9-12 and the Secondary Executive Council gathered together in the Student Center for the IPA Leadership Summit – a full afternoon of icebreaker activities, team building, and planning on Thursday, August 12.

Organized by the members of the Executive Council, under the guidance of Student Activities Coordinator Ruby May Fernandez, the student leaders worked as teams throughout the afternoon planning class spirit weeks, learning how to work with Google calendar and Google forms, creating agendas, and planning meetups. It was their first experience working together as councils, and the leadership tips they got will serve them well.

One of the new ideas they came up with for the upcoming year is Class Spirit Weeks. Each class will have a full week of fun activities/themed days and class and parent engagement. Their first activity of the year will be welcoming the students back to campus with signs and smiles on the first day of school on August 17.

Fernandez shared her life philosophy with the students through a quote from Dr. Henry Cloud, “Always leave things better than you found them, especially people.”

“I’ve always believed this about not just leadership but about people in general,” shared Fernandez. “And I know our IPA council members are definitely making this impact.”
