Early Start for AP and HL Classes

2015-2016 Juniors and Seniors Start College Level Courses

Nearly 70 juniors and seniors, all of whom are enrolled in Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) Higher Level (HL) classes, start the 2015-2016 school year today.  “In order to meet the demands of the of the College Board–the organization that oversees AP classes–and the rigor of the IB’s HL courses, these students begin school one week in advance of the rest of IPA’s student body,” explains Diploma Programme (DP) Coordinator, Jenna Gatti.   All students in an AP or HL course will attend class sessions from August 12 to 18.

“The Class of 2016, our seniors, begin their second year of the Diploma Programme today,” says Gatti. “This is the examination year in which their culminating efforts are formally acknowledged and assessed both by the teachers of IPA and the external examiners of the International Baccalaureate. The Class of 2017, juniors, are beginning their exciting two‐year journey.”

The list of courses that these students are taking include: AP English Language, AP English Literature and the IB courses Anthropology II, Biology I and II, English I and II, History I and II, Math I and II, Spanish I and II, Theatre I and II, and Visual Arts I and II.  Gatti says, “I am excited to note the increasing rigor and commitment to academic excellence that our students demonstrate through their class selections.”
