Honoring the American Worker – Labor Day Holiday

IPA wishes everyone in our Ohana (parents, students, relatives, friends and neighbors) a happy and safe Labor Day weekend.  The campus is closed today in observance of the holiday.

“All labor that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance and should be undertaken with painstaking excellence.”   Martin Luther King, Jr.

“Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.”  Confucius

About Labor Day:

  • The United States’ Labor Day holiday celebrates and honors American workers.
  • The first Labor Day was celebrated in New York City on September 5, 1882, and within 12 years more than 20 states were having Labor Day celebrations.
  • In 1894 Congress declared Labor Day, the first Monday in September, a legal holiday across the country.

Extra Family Time:

The observance of this holiday creates a three-day weekend; there will be other extended weekends throughout the school year.  How will you and your family spend this extra time together?  Will you plan ahead setting a schedule of activities or just “go with the flow?”  Sleep in or wake early to make the most of each day?

Each family’s situation is unique.  Decisions on how to spend extra time together are influenced by business demands, household routines, family traditions and budgets.  As children grow they become more involved in outside activities, develop their own interests, and may have a growing list of friends.  All of these factors can chip away at family time.
